SUFIA GIZA

Poetess, Sufia Giza is a Southern California native who resides in South Carolina. Sufia is an Ancestrally Inspired Renaissance Woman, (as Spanish Teacher, TV/Film Producer & Graphic Artist), who’s work is influenced by her Gullah Sea-Island Culture, so she let’s her poetry speak about the past, present & future. Her works/words are from the heart. Sufia finds that living in the land of her Mother’s Ancestors keeps her both grounded as well as, inspired.

That inspiration birthed, SANKOFA Times, Sufia Giza’s CD on Unity–Works Records. This Dub-Poetry CD is in the tradition of such Legendary Dub-Poets as, Linton Kwesi Johnson, and Mutabaruka. Like them, there’s an Old School Dub-Poetry Flavor of Roots & African Unity Message Music. Sufia is also a big fan of Poetess, Nikki Giovanni and this CD is very reminiscent of Ms. Giovanni’s 1970’s Album, Truth Is On It’s Way, which featured the Classic Hit, Ego Tripping. SANKOFA Times also features Legends like, Poet, Baba Amde Hamilton of the WATT’s Prophets on Langston’s Blues and World Renown Musicians, Carlton “Santa” Davis on Drums and Lesterfari on Guitar. In addition, because Sufia is Spanish speaking, there are several Spanish poems, Morena & Prisioneros de Guerra, and a Bi-lingual track, REINA, that speak to our Latino Bredren & Sistren, and anyone else who loves Spanish Reggae music. As you will see, there’s something for everyone on SANKOFA Times.

Sankofa means, “Lookin’ to the past, then movin’ fowud.” So, cum jurney thru time n’ space wit we. Go backwud ta muv fowud, cuz, it’s SANKOFA Times we livin’ in.
